New FontShuffle Version 1.1 Out Now

Update your version of FontShuffle for iPhone and iPod Shuffle today via the App Store. Enjoy the following improvements to FontShop's portable type guide:

FontShuffle is a visual typeface reference guide that organises the world of fonts into 6 categories (Sans, Serif, Slab, Script, Blackletter, and Headline) with 6 subcategories each. Tapping the navigation twice conjures up a list of type families, e.g. Sans ➙ geometric ➙ 41 families. And this is exactly the main new feature in v. 1.1 – providing a complete list of filtered results. Now it is possible to get the complete picture instead of shuffling sets of six similar typefaces.

With such a wide range of fonts available in each category it was inevitable to include the possibility to bookmark your favourites, another new feature of FontShuffle. Just click Edit – either in List or Shuffle mode – and bookmark your favourite typeface(s). These will be maintained in the next shuffle process, highlighted with a gray background at the top of the shuffle result. And now you can also turn the shuffle sound on/off in your iPhones Preferences.

If you want to immediately check a known typeface use the new search field on page 1 with its handy auto-suggest feature. Just type the first 2 to 3 letters to locate a typeface name, or find out if that font is not in FontShuffle's directory. Using the search engine is helpful if you know a typeface name but don't know what style or class it is.

The new sample word used for the font family list changed from Hamburgefontis toRamburgefonstivfor several reasons. First you get an extra letter for free (v) and the uppercase R is much more distinctive in the design of a font that the uppercase H, because you see a curve and a diagonal stroke. Additionally the ending-stiv is much more realistic than-ontis because you find st und iv in many common words.

Finally FontShuffle has become more international with three additional localisations (Dutch, French, and Norsk) thanks to the help of Yves Peters, Jean Francois Porchez, Erik van Blokland, and Jacob Øvergaard.

What FontShuffle can not do: Install fonts on your iPhone and/or iPod Touch to be used for notes, mails and messages. But we promise as soon as Apple opens the iPhone OS in that direction, FontShop will serve you :-)
