Top 100 Fonts.com Web Fonts for April 2016

DIN Next™ was the 6^thtypeface in last month's Top 100 Web Fonts list. Dating back to the late 19^thcentury, the original DIN typeface is first "industrial strength" sans. Its name is an acronym for the German Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Institute for Standardization), and it was first used to identify railroad cars and other commerce signage.

Akira Kobayashi, Monotype's European Type Director, gave this venerable sans new life in 2009, when he drew the DIN Next typeface family. It is, however, much more than a large family based on the original typeface. Kobayashi included several understated and a few obvious improvements to the design. A suite of old style figures and small caps are also included – as are a series of alternate characters that give the family more versatility. DIN Next's relatively straight verticals and open counters also made it an excellent typeface for on-screen uses.
